For sale the stunningly beautiful and very rare Verner Panton “Vilbert” Chair, designed for and launched by Ikea in 1993-4 (produced by Kellco, Switzerland), as a limited edition of 3000 chairs, in two colour configurations, and sold globally.
Very hard to come by, these chairs epitomise the playfulness, simplicity and iconic impact of Panton’s designs and are the fruit of a collaboration by designer and manufacturer dreamed up by Ingvar Kamprad (founder of IKEA) as a brand enhancer for Ikea.
Made out of melamine-coated MDF, this simple but ingenious design comprises 4 colour panels (red, teal, blue & purple) – which make up the seat, backrest and legs – and 2 grey panels, which all come together centrally, and attach together with a series of ebonised socket screws.
The chair, which is in superb used condition, with no damage and no marks or scratches of note, would grace any room and would look fantastic as an occasional chair in a bedroom or hallway or as part of a harlequin set of dining chairs. A real statement piece!!
