For sale a beautiful and highly sought-after ”Days Forum” coffee table, designed by Robin Day in 1964 and briefly produced and sold by Habitat in the late 1990s / early 2000s.
Robin Day’s radical design puts the structure on the outside; slender exterior chromed metal square bars support the solid Ash panelled box-frame which in turn houses the ‘floating’ glass top and creates a visible storage space or magazine shelf. This British-designed and Italian-made range, which includes 2 and 3 seater sofas and an armchair, is a lesson in simplicity, and a deservedly popular design classic.
The table is in good vintage condition, with several chips to the glass (see photos) and some age appropriate marks and dents to the frame but nothing to overly detract. The legs and frame are solid and firm.
Robin Day was one of the most influential British furniture designers of the twentieth century and together with his wife, the designer Lucienne Day, have often been compared to their US contemporaries, Charles and Ray Eames. He came to prominence at the Festival of Britain in 1951, designing the seating for the Royal Festival Hall, and his furniture is still widely used in homes and public spaces throughout the world.
