For sale is an iconic and seminal piece of Tom Dixon design, the “Jack light”, designed in 1994 and produced by Eurolounge Ltd from 1996. This “sitting, stacking, lighting thing”, which is made of polyethylene using air rotational moulding, is stackable (if you have more than one) and can also be used as a stool.
This hard-to-come-by yellow version of the lamp, which dates from circa the mid-2010s, is in great vintage condition commensurate with age and careful use and makes a huge statement both when on and off.
Eurolounge, a company created in 1996 for the mass production of the Jack Light, is the first lamp and iteration of Tom Dixon’s industrial ambitions.
“Many geometries were explored, but the six-sided constellation of the cube was the winner: just about simple enough to tool up, but complex enough to look like no other roto-moulding. It looked more like a Japanese concrete sea defence or a model of a molecule with a fat and jolly personality. So it was named Jack – the Sitting, Lighting, Stacking Thing.” Tom DixonMeasurements: H51 x W57cm x D57
