For sale is the wonderfully playful “Flexible Stem Flower Lamp”, designed by the supermodel Helena Christensen for Habitat’s V.I.P Collection, launched in 1994.
The lamp consists of an anodised aluminium flower shade mounted on a fully flexible two-meter cord, which can be bent into any shape and acts as the lamp’s stem and base. The lamp is in excellent vintage condition, fully functional and has ‘Helena Christensen’ and the Habitat logo embossed into the back of one of the petals (see photos).
The V.I.P or Very Important Product Collection – the brainchild of Tom Dixon, who was at the helm at Habitat at the time – was a range of homeware designed to mark the company’s 40th anniversary, and featured pieces by people of renown from the worlds of acting, sport, fashion, architecture, literature, music, business and dance – in fact, people who were known as anything but homeware designers, yet all experts in their particular field. Participants included, amongst others, Manolo Blahnik, Daft Punk, Ingvar Kampard (founder of Ikea), Kristin Scott Thomas, Philip Treacy, Issey Miyake, Paul Smith, Gilberto Gil, Stirling Moss, Jean Nouvel, Deepak Chopra, Lennox Lewis and Ewan McGregor.
