For sale a stunning, classic Habitat ”Days Forum” 2 seater sofa, designed by Robin Day in 1964 and originally produced for Hille. This sofa comes with cream/light beige leather seating and a stunning walnut frame.
Robin Day’s radical design puts the structure on the outside; slender exterior chromed metal square bars support the wood panelled frame which in turn houses the beautiful premium leather upholstery. This British designed and Italian-made seating range is a lesson in simplicity, and a deservedly popular design classic.
The sofa is in superb condition and the leather is very clean and soft, with only very minor wear commensurate with very careful use. Well looked after and loved, the frame and legs are solid and firm and the wood is in great condition and has a lovely patina and grain.
Robin Day was one of the most influential British furniture designers of the twentieth century and together with his wife, the designer Lucienne Day, have often been compared to their US contemporaries, Charles and Ray Eames. He came to prominence at the Festival of Britain in 1951, designing the seating for the Royal Festival Hall, and his furniture is still widely used in homes and public spaces throughout the world.
