For sale a stunning and extremely rare Rosewood “Jupiter” Sofa (Model 218/3), designed by Danish master FINN JUHL in 1965 and produced by top-end manufacturers France & Søn of Denmark. This design which encapsulates the elegance and minimal charm of the mid-century period, was available as a single seater with regular back or high-back and also the much rarer 4 seater version.
The vibrant kingfisher blue and green tweed fabric, which is original, is by Yugoslav born textile guru Bernat Klein, a pioneering designer who reinvigorated the British textile industry in the early 1960s and who worked mostly in fashion and collaborated with the likes of Dior, Chanel, Pierre Cardin and Saint Laurent.
The Rosewood frame is in superb condition, solid and firm and has a lovely deep grain and patina with only very minor age related wear. The loose cushions all have new fire retardant foam and the overall fabric, which has faded/discoloured in places (the armrests in particular), is non-the-less in extremely good condition and only really noticeable when the cushions have been removed.
The chair has “Made in Denmark” gold-stamped to the underside of the frame and also has it’s original France and Son label with “FF” logo, with stamped serial number and founder Charles France’s signature, (this label was used on their furniture from the mid-1960s to 1969).
Measurements: width 203cm, depth 82cm, height 76cm, seat height 44cm
