For sale a stunning, iconic and rare low-slung small Teak sideboard / cabinet (model S.203), designed by John & Sylvia Reid for the Stag Cabinet Company Ltd, in 1959 and launched in 1960.
The Sideboard was part of what has become commonly referred to as the “S” Range, which was Stag’s first foray into dining room furniture. The range, though well received at the time, didn’t sell very well and was eventually discontinued in 1963, never to be re-edited, resulting in it’s rarity and contributing to it’s collectability today.
The sideboard consists of two cupboards; the first is missing a shelf but still has it’s height-adjustable runners and the other has two blue felt-lined and one non-lined removable trays, which are adjustable for position. The unit is made of teak veneer on the outside with contrasting beech interior and features very distinctive nickel-plated steel projecting ‘tab’ handles and ‘V’ shaped ‘hairpin’ legs.
The cabinet is firm and stable and in excellent vintage condition having benefited from a recent re-polish. The top has had some small cosmetic repairs (see photos) and there are some very minor marks and scratches throughout, commensurate with 50+ years of age and careful use but nothing to detract.
Measurements: width 91.5cm, depth 46cm, height 70cm
