For sale a wonderful peach yellow Philippe Starck “Louis 20” Chair, produced by Vitra and designed in 1991.
Starck ironically named the chair “Louis 20,” poking fun at the French royal tradition of distinguishing kings of the same name by numbering them from IV to XVIII, including Louis XIV, the “Sun King,” and of identifying styles during their respective reigns the same way.
The contrast in materials is a main feature of the stackable “Louis 20” chair. Here, the voluptuous hollow front legs, the seat with the characteristic Starck front curve, and the springy back section are blown from a single piece of polypropylene and contrasting starkly with the slender polished aluminium back legs.
The chair, which is in superb used condition, is sturdy and un-damaged, has some minor marks to the plastic section and some marks/scratches/erosion to the aluminium hind legs (see photos), but absolutely nothing to detract.
A late 20th century design classic which would look great as an occasional chair in a bathroom, bedroom or hallway and would make a fantastic statement piece!!
